A New Jersey mayor lashed out at a complaining citizen, telling her to “get a job” and asking whether she still lived in the basement, during a tense exchange at a recent council meeting.

Toms River Mayor Daniel Rodrick made the sneering remarks after longtime resident Dana Tormollan accused him of attaching political letters to her taxes on Oct. 19.

“I told you to stop sending me this crap,” Tormollan exclaimed as she approached the mic during the public forum section of the Toms River Township Council meeting.

“I didn’t send you anything,” Rodrick claimed. “Did you get a job yet, Dana?

“Are you still living in the basement at home?” the mayor asked mockingly, to the groans from the gallery.

Tormollan tried to respond to the sassy mayor, but was cut off as the politician continued to question her about where she lived, stifling his own laughs in the process.

“I live in my own house and pay my own bills so back off, jackass, because you’re collecting benefits on these people’s backs. You’re a piece of crap. Shut up,” the frustrated resident fired back.

“Right, right, get a job,” Rodrick continued as Tormollan fired back that she did.

The argument between Tormollan and the mayor quickly expanded to the rest of the room as several people began shouting at each other.

Tormollan claimed she received a letter in the mail from Rodrick’s office that had a list of accomplishments the mayor achieved during his term.

“We had gotten our tax bills and his letter was in there full of things that were not true,” Tormollan told NJ.com after the meeting. “I was going to go in and just say, ‘Stop wasting residents’ money by sending out your political nonsense.’”

Tormollan questioned the truth behind the figures in the letter during her public comment slot but was shot down by Rodrick and his side-man who said the furious voter was lying.

“It’s right here you jackass,” Tormollan said, slamming the letter on the desk infront of the mayor.

Tormollan says she got heated at the mayor because he had “mocked older women” who had spoken at the meeting before her.

“If he was speaking to my mother that way, I would not sit here…It’s really gross and extremely unprofessional,” Tormollan told the outlet.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the council voted 4-3 to pass a resolution of no confidence against Rodrick for his “reprehensible behavior, disruption of official proceedings and decorum violations.”

Rodrick survived a recall campaign against him in February after critics of his term failed to secure enough signatures to force an election.
